The first one is concerned with Academic Publishers and the high cost of access to academic work published in journals. There are open-access publishing sites catering for free access and now Universities such as MIT and Melbourne University are building their own open-access institutional repositories from research conducted at their institutions. The information can be shared, saves library journal subscription dollars and is free to users. As this practice spreads, on-line journals will need to reduce their costs as consumers further utilise open-access which will reinforce entitlement.
Entitlement can also revolve around the idea that, 'if others are receiving something for free then so should I.' The next article looks at emergency evacuations by the Australian government from overseas hot spots. The driving force behind entitlement here is what other countries are doing which then determine expectations by the Australian public when travelling overseas.
